Notes on the Rise

A Note on the Rise by Lungi Koni

Introduction

Sawubona (I see you),

I have witnessed Lungi rising into her worthiness: even when the odds were seemingly stacked against her, she pushed back harder. A poet rising, loves to travel, curious about life. Lungi’s poem below encourages me to always remember that nothing can stop our good stories.

Thank you for pulling me UP and for walking with me home to ME.

Rise.

When I Rise

A Note on the Rise by Lungi Koni

I rise for I have a story to tell
A narrative that speaks of triumph
Where I stood up to calamities that buried all hope

With nothing but courage as a weapon
Hardships were broken
Tribulations were unravelled
As I walked out of a deadly maze

I rise for my story is a cause
A foundation that speaks of healing
Where I endured wounds that emphasised my brokenness

With nothing but strength as a guide
Storms were halted
Winds were veered
As I set sail out of depression

I rise for a WORD was spoken over my life
A birth that speaks of resurrection
Where I was crushed into poured out wine

With nothing but trust as a shield
Personal sanctification was eradicated
Afflictions were part of a calling
As I journeyed into abundance
